Commander, Ninth Coast Guard District, Visits The Great Lakes Towing Company and Great Lakes Shipyard for Tour of USCG Cutter KATMAI BAY
Rear Admiral June E. Ryan, Commander 9th Coast Guard District, visited The Great Lakes Towing Company on August 11, 2015, and met with Company officials and employees to learn more about the Company’s towing operations on the U.S. Great Lakes and to visit the USCG Cutter KATMAI BAY while in the Great Lakes Shipyard’s drydock for inspection, maintenance, and repairs. Rear Admiral Ryan was accompanied by Lieutenant (jg) Lloyd Heslin, Aide to the Admiral; Master Chief Petty Officer Sean Sulski, Command Master Chief 9th Coast Guard District; and Lieutenant John Mundale, Commanding Officer of USCGC KATMAI BAY (WTGC-101).
Rear Admiral Ryan assumed her duties as the Commander, 9th Guard District on June 3, 2015.
Ron Rasmus, The Great Lakes Towing Company’s Chairman accompanied Rear Admiral Ryan for the tour of the Shipyard. KATMAI BAY is homeported in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan and arrived at the Shipyard on July 8, 2015.
The Ninth Coast Guard District is responsible for all Coast Guard operations throughout the five Great Lakes, the Saint Lawrence Seaway and parts of the surrounding states including 6,700 miles of shoreline and 1,500 miles of the international border with Canada. The 6,000 active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary men and women who make up the Ninth District deliver multi-mission services in search and rescue, maritime safety and security, environmental protection, maritime law enforcement, aids to navigation and icebreaking.
