The Marine Traffic & Operations Assistant is responsible for dispatching towing vessels with appropriate crew members, on time, and per customer specifications.
Operations Center Duties:
Schedules and coordinates flow of work based on customer orders, establishes priorities and availability of personnel, equipment and resources;
Ensure tugs are properly crewed and operated;
Develop and monitor procedures and programs to track company and crew activities;
Maintain the Daily Towing Forecast;
Maintain Daily Log in a professional and complete manner;
Track Great Lakes cargo vessel traffic;
Communicate with Customer/agents;
Research, preparation and distribution of weekly forecast;
Execute Work Rules for tug crews in accordance with their respective Labor Agreements;
Carry out and complete any assignments assigned by Supervisor;
Coordinate chemical testing of individuals as required;
Notify designated individuals of significant events occurring during shifts;
Assignment to special projects as necessary.
Operations Department Duties:
Daily supervision and operation of Company tug fleet including union relations, tracking personnel qualifications, hiring and training of personnel, respond to company problems and emergencies on a 24-hour per day basis;
Management of crews for repair & maintenance of company tugs, in addition to assigned towing;
Servicing company customers;
Identify and develop new business opportunities;
Continue to develop & implement policies and procedures.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Computer Skills: MS Office Software Suite; Internet-based networking;
Knowledge of Local and Federal regulations pertinent to the tugboat and towing industry;
General knowledge of tug maintenance systems and equipment;
Ability to deal with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment;
Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications;
Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions;
Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance;
Performance Measurements
Safe and efficient operation of Company tugs;
Effective utilization of company assets;
Customer satisfaction;
Employee feedback on scheduling, courtesy and communications;
Accuracy of prepared paperwork and files.

Position Requirements Duties & Responsibilities
Prepares parts for blasting by performing inspection for oil, grease or other contaminants.
Operates sandblasting equipment to apply various abrasives to clean, remove corrosion or other contaminants on materials. May operate blasting equipment in booth or walk-in cabinet.
Blasts coatings off ship hull and tanks to prepare steel surfaces for painting.
Mixes colors or oils to obtain desired color or consistency
Performs surface prop on tanks, shipboard piping systems, interior and exterior surface areas utilizing grinders and sandblasters.
Preps, taps, brushes, rolls and sprays using either conventional or airless sprayers.
Maintains sandblasting and other painting equipment: hoses, pumps, pressure tanks, spray guns and tips.
Knowledge, Education, Skills, and Abilities Required
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Necessary proficiency with abrasive blasting, Airless and HVLP painting, including required environmental precautions and laws
NACE or SSPC-QP-1 paint inspector certified
Must be proficient with all required: DFT, WFT, Humidity, Soluble Salts, Anchor Profile and Dew Point readings and associated documentation
Must have a through working knowledge of marine coating application and surface preparation for various surfaces; various types of spray painting machines and equipment used in coating application.
Prefer marine experience but not required
Minimum Work Environment Requirements
Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to current or daily job duties.
Be fit for a respirator.
Carry up to 50 pounds.
Constantly climb stairs and ladders on daily basis.
Access confined spaces.
Bend, twist, kneel, and reach constantly.
Endure noise, fumes, dust and inclement weather.
Work overtime and weekends as needed to meet production demands.
Other
The first ninety (90) days of employment will be an introductory period including on the job training. Successful completion of the introductory period is required for continued employment.
