Fleet Updated with Eco-Friendly Tugs

The Great Lakes Towing Company and Logan Clutch Corporation officially signed a contract at ITS 2018 Marseille for the incorporation of Logan’s advanced power generation and propulsion systems into the Company’s new fleet of Damen designed Stan Tugs 1907 ICE, being built by Great Lakes Shipyard.

At a ceremony at the ITS exhibition hall, toasted with champagne, Mike Vining, Logan Clutch Product and Applications Manager OEM/National Accounts Manager, said:  “This project would not be possible without the enthusiastic collaboration of all the parties involved, each with their own challenges to overcome to make the entire project happen:  Great Lakes Shipyard for finding the funding for the project; MTU for the captain’s controls interface and Twin Disc for mechanical propulsion system with a new standard supply of modified components to optimise the hybrid system.”

Also at the ceremony was Robert J. Zadkovich, Vice President, Business Development, at The Great Lakes Towing Company, who said:  “Implementing the hybrid technology in a series of new-build tugs for our fleet also improves our shipyard experience, and we look forward to offering this to other fleet operators.”
