Shoreside Fleet Mechanic
JOB TITLE: Shoreside Fleet Mechanic
LOCATION: Cleveland, Ohio
Job Summary:
The Shoreside Mechanic performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on diesel and marine engines, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals. Must perform the essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others.
Essential Job Duties:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Installs and rebuilds pumps, compressors, clutches, and gear boxes
- Tests marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustments
- Repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valves
- Operates hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair
- Installs and aligns shafting, pumps, engines, rudders and steering gears
- Removal and installation of propellers, bearings and shafting
- Installs and repairs minor electrical systems.
- Preserves and coats the exterior and interior of the vessel.
- Travels to outlaying ports as needed (estimated 25% travel)
- Other maintenance duties as directed
Minimum Work Environment Requirements:
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to current or daily job duties
- Be fit for a respirator
- Carry up to 50 pounds
- Repetitive climbing stairs and ladders
- Repetitive bending, twisting, kneeling and reaching
- Exposure to loud noise daily
- Access confined spaces
- Work outdoors year round
Additional Requirements:
Obtain Merchant Mariner Credential within the first 180 days of employment.
