Great Lakes Shipyard Awarded Multi-Vessel Drydocking & Repair Contract by US Army Corps of Engineers

Great Lakes Ship­yard has been award­ed a repair con­tract by the Unit­ed States Army Corps of Engi­neers (USACE) Buf­fa­lo Dis­trict for two (2) tugs and two (2) barges from the Corps’ Cleve­land Field Station.

The ship­yard will per­form dry­dock­ing, main­te­nance and repairs of the 109-foot Tug CHERAW and 53-foot Tug DONLON, and the 120-foot Deck Barges BD-6259 and BC-6472. Work includes under­wa­ter hull clean­ing and main­te­nance, as well as inspec­tion and test­ing of propul­sion sys­tems; over­haul of sea valves and shaft bear­ings and assem­blies; and oth­er rou­tine clean­ing, inspec­tions, main­te­nance and repairs. In addi­tion, the scope of work includes major over­hauls of the propul­sion engines, fend­er­ing replace­ments, and major steel renewals.

This will be the first time the Corps’ tugs and barges have been dry­docked using Great Lakes Shipyard’s 700 met­ric ton capac­i­ty Marine Trav­elift. All four (4) ves­sels will be hauled out with­in a few days of arrival. Work will com­mence imme­di­ate­ly and pro­ceed on all ves­sels on a con­cur­rent basis until com­plet­ed in April.

Great Lakes Ship­yard is a full-ser­vice yard spe­cial­iz­ing in ship repairs, new con­struc­tion, indus­tri­al fab­ri­ca­tion, and win­ter layup work of all types of vessels.
