Great Lakes Shipyard Completes Multi-Vessel Drydocking & Repair Contract for US Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District

Great Lakes Ship­yard com­plet­ed the mul­ti-ves­sel dry­dock­ing and repair con­tract for the Unit­ed States Army Corps of Engi­neers (USACE) Detroit Dis­trict Float­ing Plant, and all ves­sels were rede­liv­ered on Decem­ber 28, 2015. This was the first time the Detroit Dis­trict Float­ing Plant has been dry­docked using Great Lakes Shipyard’s 700 met­ric ton capac­i­ty Marine Trav­elift. The ship­yard hauled out Tug DEMOLEN and Deck Scow BC-6576 on Octo­ber 26, 2015 and Crane Barge VELER on Octo­ber 27, 2015.

In addi­tion to dry­dock­ing the ves­sels, work includ­ed bin wall fab­ri­ca­tion and instal­la­tion; deck mat renewals; under­wa­ter hull clean­ing and main­te­nance; inspec­tion of propul­sion and steer­ing sys­tems; sea valves main­te­nance; bear­ing inspec­tions; steel repairs, and oth­er rou­tine main­te­nance and repairs. The scope of work also includ­ed renew­al of four (4) large deck hatch­es on the Crane Barge VELER.
