Director of Operations

Min Experience: 5–7 years as Manager within the Maritime Industry, including the US Coast Guard
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Reports to:  VP, Operations
Required Travel:  30%

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marine Operations:

  • Man­age­ment and over­sight of all fleet activ­i­ties, includ­ing the day-to-day activ­i­ties of the Oper­a­tions Cen­ter, includ­ing all Oper­a­tions Cen­ter personnel;
  • Ops Cen­ter per­son­nel train­ing and development;
  • Com­pa­ny Rep­re­sen­ta­tive in any/all safe­ty inci­dents, includ­ing secu­ri­ty events, qual­i­ty issues, reli­a­bil­i­ty prob­lems, equip­ment fail­ures, envi­ron­men­tal releas­es, and/or marine trans­porta­tion accidents;
  • Take lead role as Company’s liai­son to the US Coast Guard;
  • Inter­nal devel­op­ment of new busi­ness or expan­sion ideas and opportunities

Marine Personnel:

  • Main­te­nance of Labor Agree­ments and Mem­o­ran­da of Under­stand­ing between the Com­pa­ny and the Unions which rep­re­sent the Licensed and Unli­censed Tug­men employed on the Great Lakes
  • Prepa­ra­tion and main­te­nance of all Com­pa­ny employ­ee afloat Per­son­nel Records, in accor­dance with Com­pa­ny policy;
  • Assess, plan, and imple­ment all marine per­son­nel require­ments, includ­ing employ­ment, train­ing and devel­op­ment activities;

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Eval­u­ate all Com­pa­ny marine oper­a­tions poli­cies and pro­ce­dures to pro­mote and ensure strict com­pli­ance with cur­rent laws and reg­u­la­tions, and to assess suit­abil­i­ty and stan­dard of quality;
  • Main­te­nance of the Company’s Tow­ing Safe­ty Main­te­nance Sys­tem, includ­ing all annu­al updates and new poli­cies and procedures.
  • Prepa­ra­tion and main­te­nance of all Com­pa­ny tow­ing and oper­a­tions files;
  • Ensur­ing that all Com­pa­ny tugs are out­fit­ted and crewed in accor­dance with Fed­er­al reg­u­la­tions and Com­pa­ny policy;
  • Review fed­er­al, state and inter­na­tion­al laws and reg­u­la­tions to assure tow­ing ves­sel compliance;
  • Coor­di­nate imple­men­ta­tion of com­pli­ance activities;
  • Pre­pare, pro­mul­gate, main­tain, and update required poli­cies, pro­ce­dures, reports, plans and manuals;
  • Lead inter­pre­ta­tion and com­pli­ance of reg­u­la­to­ry issues;
  • Main­te­nance and admin­is­tra­tion of the Com­pa­ny’s Safe­ty Pro­grams in accor­dance with Com­pa­ny pro­ce­dures and Fed­er­al regulations;
  • Spe­cial Projects as assigned.
